Jim Goguen of Jim’s Auto Installations & Detailing Center was awarded Detailing Person of the Year 2013 at the annual Mobile Tech Expo held in Orlando, Florida the last week of January 2013. Mobile Tech Expo is the largest international show for the appearance and repair-reconditioning professionals in the United States. Goguen’s detailing peers from around the country submitted a short recommendation for why they believe their nominee deserved the recognition. From the list of nominees, five rise to the finalist position. “We had more participation this year than any year previous,” says Kevin Halewood, publisher of SunKing Publishing who has been publishing both the Mobile Tech News and Detailers Digest for the past 15 years, and is founder of the Mobile Tech Expo. “We appoint a special committee who conducts the final selection and tabulation process and we do not know the winner until just a few days prior to the awarding of the trophy.” Halewood also explains that the Detailing Person of the Year is someone who is either retired from the detailing business but continues to contribute in some way to the industry, or to someone still active in the detailing industry who stands out for other reasons for their ongoing excellence in detailing. “I’ve know Jim Goguen for many years and I know him to be worthy of this honor. I personally presented him with the trophy as our 2013 Detailing Person of the Year,” he says.

“The most flattering aspect of winning this award is that it comes from my peers within the industry,” says Goguen, whose store, Jim’s Auto has been providing high-end automotive detailing and automotive and truck accessories for over 25 years. “I know so many of these guys because we work across state lines on shared projects. All of these guys work hard to be the best at what they do, and they are all deserving of the same recognition. I sent in my own nomination for another detailer I believed deserving of the award, so naturally I was surprised to be chosen for the award myself! It is an honor I take very seriously.”

Jim’s Auto has been the automotive enthusiast’s favorite toy store since 1986 when it was little more than a car audio store located inside John’s Citgo on Central Street in Ipswich. Since then, Jim’s has grown into a full service detailing shop offering a number of automotive services pertaining to the appearance and over all care and upkeep of your car or truck, located at 5 Washington Street alongside TNT Car Wash.

Jim has earned a Master Detailing certification from Renny Doyle’s infamous Detailing Success training, and earned a special certification to detail airplanes, yachts, and museum-worthy transportation collectibles and exotics. He was a Team Leader for the Air Force One detailing project at Seattle’s Museum of Flight in 2011 and continues to bring the most innovative equipment, products, and techniques to the automotive detailing industry.

It’s all about the customers,” he says. “They are the driving force behind my steady growth over the years. We have always focused our attention on providing our customers with the newest techniques in the detailing industry, accompanied by superior customer service. They appreciate our commitment just like we appreciate their loyalty.”

“I just want to thank all my brothers in the detailing business who voted for me this year. I am honored by the recognition!”
